The linear encoder plastic strip works in conjuction with the encoder sensor within your printer.
The strip has vertical lines within the strip that the encoder sensor uses to report the linear position of the print carriage through to the printer processor.
This encoder strip is 180 lpi.
Cleaning should be part of you maintenance program.
